A Thankful Heart
Ambleside Online is one of the main tools we use in our homeschool and we love it. One of my favorite things is their section on holidays. They have an excellent list of stories and/or poems for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we have been going through the Thanksgiving poems this week. You can find that selection here. I love poetry, but there are always poems I’ve never read before and we’ve been so enjoying this.
My favorite so far is this short from George Herbert:
Thou that hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, a grateful heart:
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose Pulse may be
Thy Praise.
George Herbert (1593-1633)
Isn’t that just lovely? I think so. As we go through this weekend, I hope everybody is able to take a few minutes to reflect on all that we really have to be thankful for. Thankfulness is continually rebounding. The more you contemplate it, the more you have.
I love November and how everybody tries to focus on gratitude and thankfulness throughout this month. And every year I pray for this season of gratitude to be extended in my heart all year long.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
